The second life of a coffee bean: from nature to nature

The second life of a coffee bean: from nature to nature
The second life of a coffee bean: from nature to nature

Europeans and Americans, spoiled by good coffee, rarely think about the fact that coffee trees have any other benefits other than a cup of invigorating tasty drink. However, life is more diverse and more interesting than it seems at first glance. In fact, everything is used: the foliage of the coffee tree, and parts of the fruit, and even the already spent coffee grounds.

Leaves, fruits, grains

Coffee leaves have been the mainstay of drinks in African and Asian countries for centuries. Its berries (which contain the grain) are also a great product. In some countries, cascara (shell of grain, pulp) is used for food: they make a decoction from it, a kind of compote.

Not so long ago, modern businessmen decided to introduce the "new tea" from the coffee leaf. And the drink from cascara began to appear on the menus of some European and American coffee houses. And as for the remnants of cooked crushed grains, then there are experts in this business. The cake performs additional functions: it is useful for the garden and vegetable garden, for the household and even for cosmetic procedures. The coffee is drunk, no one brews the second time, of course: but there is a product useful for important purposes.

Excellent fertilizer

Farmers in Asia, Africa, America constantly use leftovers from processed coffee berries as top dressing on plantations. Compost is formed due to the different parts of the fruit: skin, pulp. The grain is sold, but few buyers realize that it is also a natural fertilizer. Arabica and robusta not only grow on rich soils, but also accumulate a large number of useful elements in their fruits.

Gardeners buy and use inorganic fertilizers containing phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen. However, people do not think that when they clean the coffee maker, all these substances are simply sent to the trash can. You should not scatter such a useful product as boiled milled grains.

How to fertilize plants with coffee pomace

Let's clarify right away: if for some reason you didn't like ground coffee, you cannot immediately (without preliminary brewing) use it as a fertilizer. Only processed coffee is stripped of its natural acidity. It is contraindicated for many plants. You need exactly the thick that remains in the coffee pot, the coffee maker after the preparation of the drink.

These remains are dried by city dwellers, collected in a container and stored in a dark place. Drying is a must: mold or mildew is dangerous when feeding any crop. One of the simplest ways (convenient for summer residents and everyone who does not live in the city) is to send the coffee grounds directly to the compost, where it will grind together with plant waste.

When planting fruit trees or bushes, it is quite simple to use dry cake: it is poured into the bottom of a dug hole. In the garden and in the flower garden, when preparing the soil, coffee grounds are also useful: it is enough to mix it with the cultivated land. Such feeding will please carrots, radishes, tomatoes, as well as flowers - roses, daylilies. An important principle is not to fertilize with coffee residues those crops for which even a slight acidification of the soil is contraindicated.

Interestingly, some plants need acidic soil. For example, hydrangeas. These luxurious shrubs will not be offended if they receive not a neutral dry cake, but a little "acidity" of coffee residues.

Natural cosmetology

Face masks made from natural products have always been popular: who does not know about the benefits of fresh cucumbers or strawberries for the skin. Coffee grounds give an excellent effect. Waste grain particles are appropriate in shower gels. They are good for massaging, fighting cellulite and improving hair health.

A natural body scrub with coffee grounds is as good as industrial products. Of course, it must be combined with a base of cream or cosmetic oil (for example, almond oil). This composition manages to perfectly cleanse the skin, tone it up. If you apply it on your skin at least once a month, you can get a decent result. When in one peeling procedure all the prepared scrub has not been used up, then the leftovers should be stored in the refrigerator.

For what purposes is the dye from the thick

Coffee is a good colorant. Having brewed ground coffee a second time, it is easy to get a rich liquid. She will give a pleasant shade to Easter eggs, paint paper or fabric in the desired tone. Another trick: chips and scratches on wood - furniture, figurines, caskets - can be easily masked with this decoction. It is worth rubbing a conspicuous defect several times until the appropriate shade is obtained.

It is for this reason that the advice seems somewhat controversial: use waste coffee as a cleaner for kitchen utensils. The coloring effect cannot be neutralized on many surfaces. If the grind is fine enough, coffee leftovers will not work well as an abrasive cleaning agent. It's a matter of taste.

Some additional tips

The aroma of coffee neutralizes unpleasant odors, has the same propertyno brewed coffee. Use it in the bathroom or for the refrigerator and cabinet under the kitchen sink.

Many harmful insects do not like the smell of coffee: wasps, ants, fleas, ticks. The treatment of certain areas of the site with dry powder or plants with a solution of cake (using a spray gun) gives a good effect. You just need to remember: wet cake is not suitable for surface application on the ground: this is how midges can breed.

From fleas with the help of cake it is possible to clean the hair of dogs. And in relation to cats who like to mark the territory of the site, such a fragrant remedy (with the addition of citrus zest) also works well: it is possible to scare away intruders.

Eco-friendly and cheap: coffee versus reagents

It is sad for everyone to look in the spring at city sidewalks and tile paths, completely covered with the remains of deicing agents, dangerous for plants and animals, and New Year's sparkles that have become trash.

Sleeping dry coffee as an anti-slip agent is a terrific solution that has been used in several European countries. This environmentally friendly product goes to public utilities almost free of charge, like waste from public catering enterprises. It will not bring any harm to parks, squares and lawns. Another equally ingenious life hack is confetti carved from real leaves. All winter "gold" and ice powder should return to nature again, without polluting it.
