One of the best European brands: how did it all start?
In 1862, in the heart of Vienna, opened a small shop selling oriental spices, cereals, tea, cocoa, and green coffee. Knowing the enormous popularity of coffee and beverages based on it among residents of the Austrian capital, the owner of grocery store Julius Meinl I developed the coffee direction. Literally a few years later, an Austrian businessman, the son of the founder Julius meinl II, developed a revolutionary roasting technology for the time, in which the coffee berries no longer worked with various gases giving them a specific undesirable taste.
The grains were evenly fried in stable temperature conditions, as a result of which they acquired a beautiful chocolate-brown color and a luxurious rich aroma, without any foreign impurities. With this roasting, essential aromatic oils are more active on the grain surface, giving them an intense attractive bouquet. Having gained considerable experience in the field of purchases of green coffee beans and their subsequent processing and roasting, in 1911 Julius Meinl opens the first roasting shop for the production of coffee julius meinl. The workshop specialized exclusively in classic Viennese roasting (medium degree).
In 1912, production is transferred to a historic building for the company, on the street, which today bears the name of the creator of the company - Meinl Gasse. Today, the factory, as well as the head office of the coffee corporation are located exactly in this building. Strictly adhering to the classical European traditions in production, and also combining them with innovative roasting technologies, the company founder becomes one of the most successful and influential businessmen of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
