Coffee Julius Meinl

Julius meinl: coffee with an impeccable reputation and a rich history

One of the best European brands: how did it all start?

In 1862, in the heart of Vienna, opened a small shop selling oriental spices, cereals, tea, cocoa, and green coffee. Knowing the enormous popularity of coffee and beverages based on it among residents of the Austrian capital, the owner of grocery store Julius Meinl I developed the coffee direction. Green coffee was purchased only from the best suppliers, and before the sale, its quality was carefully checked several times.

Literally a few years later, an Austrian businessman, the son of the founder Julius meinl II, developed a revolutionary roasting technology for the time, in which the coffee berries no longer worked with various gases giving them a specific undesirable taste.

The grains were evenly fried in stable temperature conditions, as a result of which they acquired a beautiful chocolate-brown color and a luxurious rich aroma, without any foreign impurities. With this roasting, essential aromatic oils are more active on the grain surface, giving them an intense attractive bouquet. The taste of the ready-made coffee julius meinl is harmonious, with notes of pleasant velvety sweetness.

Freshly roasted coffee beans, which have excellent taste and aromatic characteristics, made a real sensation among fans of the popular invigorating drink. Thanks to his diligence and his own "know-how" in the field of roasting, the family business of Meinlov acquired a large number of satisfied and grateful customers, and clearly defined the main direction for business development.

1891-1913

This period of stable formation is one of the most important and significant for the company Julius meinl. Having gained considerable experience in the field of purchases of green coffee beans and their subsequent processing and roasting, in 1911 Julius Meinl opens the first roasting shop for the production of coffee julius meinl. The workshop specialized exclusively in classic Viennese roasting (medium degree).

In 1912, production is transferred to a historic building for the company, on the street, which today bears the name of the creator of the company - Meinl Gasse. Today, the factory, as well as the head office of the coffee corporation are located exactly in this building. Strictly adhering to the classical European traditions in production, and also combining them with innovative roasting technologies, the company founder becomes one of the most successful and influential businessmen of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

In 1913, coffee julius meinl became well-known not only in his native Vienna and Austria, but also in many European countries. Being the largest roaster, and the seller of high-quality, popular product, the company starts actively working for imports, supplying its products to European countries.

The famous Mauritian in the fez - the creation of Joseph Binder

Almost every inhabitant of Vienna knows the story of the small Mauritian who was captured by the Polish troops in 1683 during the battle with the Turkish soldiers of the Kara Mustafa army. A small dark-skinned boy was carrying a small bag in which he kept coffee beans. Of these, the Mauritian cooked an unusual drink, the taste of which was completely unknown to the Austrians.

Working on the creation of the logo for the company Julius Meinl, the designer from Austria takes as a basis this famous legend and draws the image of a mauritan in a fez, holding a cup of his favorite fragrant drink with invigorating properties. To this day, the profile of the forerunner of the appearance of coffee in Europe, decorates all the brand's products. The image of the Mauritian is not only the company logo, it is also a symbol of quality, and a tribute to the oldest European traditions.

Few important dates:

  • 1950 - on Graben street, 19 in the center of the city the first gastronomic store-boutique of the brand opens, which works in our time;
  • 1962 - the celebration of the 100th anniversary, and in honor of this celebration produces a new blend, called "Jubilee";
  • 1980 - the creation and production of a new professional mixture called "President", which is still produced today;
  • 2002 - opening of the first brand network in Chicago;
  • 2004 - the logo design undergoes slight changes. The author selected the Italian Mateo Tun;
  • 2008 - the biggest coffee shop in the world opens on Ringstrasse in Vienna;

The basis for creating blends is premium alpine arabica and elite robusta. The geography of grain supplies is quite wide: coffee berries are purchased in ecologically clean regions of Central and South America, India and Papua New Guinea. The corporation owns own plantations in the countries where coffee berries are grown, and also closely cooperates with the trusted planters.

During the harvest, I take into account such criteria as; the degree of maturity, the time of harvest, climatic conditions and so on. Only the best grains of the best grades go into production, which undergo primary quality control, as well as subsequent computer diagnostics on special electronic equipment.

To date, there are several factories operating in Austria and Italy. A wide range of products includes a range of professional blends, consisting of different proportions of arabica and robusta. A diverse palette of flavors is represented both by classical flavors and unusual bright solutions, for example, the exotic aroma of tropical fruit or the aftertaste of citrus fruits.

The online store "Coffee House" offers you to appreciate the excellent Austrian coffee, with a rich history and excellent indicators of taste, aroma and a long, pleasant aftertaste. Order with pleasure!
