Where and in what conditions does lavazza coffee grow?

Where and in what conditions does lavazza coffee grow?

In total, there are about 90 types of coffee trees in the world, but only Arabica (Arabian) and Robusta (Congolese) are considered the most common and suitable. On the basis of these two types of coffee, lavazza create a huge variety of blends with all sorts of shades of taste and notes of aroma. At the origin of the entire coffee industry is the coffee tree, which needs special conditions to grow, especially during the growing season.

For growth and good development, each coffee tree needs such favorable conditions:

  • slightly acidic soil with a high content of minerals and nutrients;
  • humid, hot climate;
  • a lot of water, especially during the growing season;
  • shady area;
  • air temperature 25 C, which is kept all year round;
  • stability of temperature conditions, without sudden changes.

Tropical terrain is optimal for growing these very whimsical plants.

Lavazza pays close attention to the cultivation of coffee for its products. The company buys grains that are grown in regions with the best growing conditions. In addition, Lavazza contributes to the improvement of the quality of raw materials, creating various programs for sustainable agriculture and maintaining an ecological balance for planters and the local population. Raw materials for blends are supplied from Africa, South and Central America, Vietnam, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, Kenya and plantations in Ecuador.

Arabica - decoration of high-altitude plantations

Lavazza blends contain different proportions of premium Arabica and Robusta varieties. In total, the cultivation and subsequent processing of Arabica varieties (Mundonovo, Bourbon, Catui, Catimorra, etc.) accounts for over 75% of the total production.

The ideal growing environment is plantations located between 600 and 2000 meters above sea level. Thanks to this height, the harvest of these whimsical plants acquires an excellent refined aroma and a well-balanced taste: moderately sweet with a slight bitterness and slightly perceptible bitterness.

Arabica seeds ripen for almost a year. At the time of harvest, they have an oblong, oval, elliptical shape and a barely noticeable wavy strip. Depending on the country and climatic conditions, lavazza coffee, which includes high-mountainous arabica coffee, has a flavor and aroma shades: from rich chocolate to light citrus or fruity. The percentage of caffeine in raw beans is about 1.5.

Where and how is Robusta coffee grown for lavazza?

From English "robust" is translated as "strong, strong". Robusta sorts account for less than 30% of coffee production. This species differs from Arabica in a higher caffeine content (twice) and conditions for growing trees. Congolese coffee plantations are located at an altitude of 200 m to 600 m maximum, mostly in the plains.

Robusta perfectly tolerates high humidity and exhausting hot climate, when the thermometer can reach 30 degrees. Trees always give a bountiful harvest, they are less fastidious to care for and more resistant to diseases.

Coffea canephora, from the Madder family, has a more rounded shape than Arabica. In terms of taste and aroma, Coffea robusta is certainly inferior to its alpine relative. The grains have a heavier aroma and a bright pronounced bitterness, but in the right proportions with Arabica, in mixtures of lavazza, Robusta gives the finished drink a high persistent cream, density, body, and also increases its strength to the required level.

How is the harvest for lavazza coffee done?

In the coffee industry, there are two known methods for collecting beans.

Manual or mechanical shaking off. This method involves the rapid and simultaneous removal of grains, but requires careful bulkhead and rejection of unripe or spoiled fruits;

Manual assembly. A painstaking and lengthy process, during which the pickers pick only ripe berries, one by one. In this case, a better quality approach is provided.

The beans for making lavac blends are harvested exclusively by hand, so only selected, optimally ripe coffee beans are processed for further processing. In the next step, evenly ripened beans are removed from the rind, wet or dry.

Roasting, packaging and packaging of grain and ground coffee is carried out at 6 factories of the company, 4 of which are located in Italy. Selected, high-quality grains are roasted using high-tech equipment and innovative technologies.
